As we sail through the beginning of the year and into mid-February, the middle school reeled in attention with a production of “Finding Nemo Jr.” The cast and crew’s relentless enthusiasm has powered them through rehearsals since November, and after a lot of work, have finally put the show to stage.
“Finding Nemo Jr.” is Amanda Brown’s first production as a director. Although this job is not easy, she “has gained a lot of experience” that has helped her create an amazing production. Brown’s role as a choreographer also has challenges unique to this show. The biggest challenge is “thinking about how the fish would move” and how she can make the choreography less human-like.
For those who are first trying out their jobs, to those who are experienced, everyone is doing wonderfully, according to Mac Beasly, Maryvale faculty member and the play’s technical director. “The crew is so fantastic, and amazing, and I love them all,” the technical director noted. Crew members typically are not as appreciated or recognized as the cast, but they are just as important.
The leading stars of the show, eighth graders Hanna Killough and Sophie Arnold, who plays Nemo’s father, were very excited to share the production with others. Kilough remarked that she, “Definitely enjoys the show.” Kilough, playing Nemo, was very happy with the bonds she forged while rehearsing “Finding Nemo Jr”, specifically with the seventh graders.
Throughout their shows last weekend, the cast’s enthusiasm showed through in their performance. Among all of the cast and crew, there is one thing that is clear: everyone was incredibly proud to showcase this production.
