When I was going into the movie theater I thought for sure that I would have nightmares from this movie like I did with the first and second “Conjuring” movies. I am usually not a big fan of horror movies that are based in a religious or haunted view because I am a believer in both God and the paranormal. The movie was portrayed in the trailer as a scary movie that (like most films advertise) you will be on the edge of your seat. I will not argue with the fact that there were a few very frightening jump scares and parts that gave me a shiver down my spine, but the movie was poorly spread out to the point where I can’t really see the movie as an authentic horror movie.
The movie was about the daughter of the Warren family all grown up and dealing with seeing ghosts like her mother does. Judy, the daughter, is getting married and her parents, Ed and Lorraine Warren, have retired from helping people get rid of demonic entities stuck with people. For most of the movie it just goes into backstory after backstory about Judy before she was born, her early childhood, and struggle with controlling her visions.
The movie felt to me like Encanto but for adults and with horror. I feel that the movie was not as scary as it claims and it has too much lore for my liking. For a movie showing the last hurrah of the Warrens, I felt that it was lackluster in how the movie came across to the audience. The Conjuring Last Rites felt like a jumble of mediocre scares and side quests that should not have belonged in the same movie. I truly feel that the movie was lore first, scary second and that is why I say that The Conjuring Last Rites is really not a horror movie.

I thought it was disappointing too, and I’m a huge fan of horror movies. I often say The Conjuring #1 is one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen (along with Hereditary and Sinister).
Looking forward to more scary movie reviews from you!
