Election Day Rapidly Approaches

Every four years, the United States prepares for one of the most important days for the country: election day. The 2024 presidential election is in full swing and has been filled with many unexpected twists and turns. In the beginning of the election season, the republican candidate was former President Donald Trump alongside his running mate Senate member JD Vance versus current President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris. However, not all candidates would stick through the race.

On July 21, President Joe Biden dropped out of the election. His exit from the presidential race comes after increasing concerns over his age and health. To replace him, the Democratic National Committee nominated Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris announced shortly after her nomination that her running mate will be Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Another event that shocked the nation was the attempted assassination of Trump. On July 13, Trump, while holding a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was shot in the ear. Luckily, his wound was not fatal. However, there were three others in the audience that were shot, two of which were injured and one tragically lost their life. The shooter was later identified by the FBI to be twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Many Americans have criticized the Secret Service for failing to protect Trump during the rally. This incident led to increased security protocols at political events.

Despite all the challenges candidates Trump and Harris have faced, they continue to fight for their views on critical issues. Americans got to hear the voices of both candidates during the presidential debate on September 10^th. This debate discussed the most prevalent concerns in the nation, including immigration, the economy, abortion, climate change, the country’s involvement in the war with Ukraine, and the Israel-Hamas War. Kamala and Trump both received praises and criticisms for their responses from Americans, members of the U.S. government, and news outlets.

The 2024 election season is proving a very close race. As Trump and Harris wrap up their campaigns, Americans are deciding who to vote for. The country will not know who will become president until election day on November 5. Voting in this election is essential to make sure everyone’s voice is heard. In one of the most important elections in United States history, one vote can be the difference between which candidate will become president.
