On September 25, 2024 the middle school B team played a home game against McDonough. Because the B team was lacking players some A team players stepped up to play for them. Some of the players playing for B were Sophia Merson, Gaby Yared, and Morgan Janvier. The game was very exciting and our team was playing aggressive and hard. They were determined to win.
On the sidelines the students from various grades at Maryvale were screaming to cheer on their fellow students and friends. Soon after, the goals started piling in. These goals were scored by Kennett Gordon, Morgan Janvier, Sloane Wyatt, Meredith Baseman. And 2 of these goals were scored off of ricocheting balls. The final score was 4-0 Maryvale. Go Lions!
After the game, I interviewed a few people. The first person was Olivia Cole, a 6th grader at Maryvale, who goes by Liv. The first question I asked was how she thought the game went and she answered saying, “I think our team possessed the ball well and played good defense,”. I also asked what her favorite part of soccer is, “I love being able to be competitive and be with my friends,”. Next I went to talk to Charlie Kelly, a 7th grader at Maryvale. She was telling me about how she thought the team had great shots, and good touches. But said she needs to work on calming down her kicks. Also, her favorite part of soccer is being on a team and celebrating. Finally, I talked to Anna Kelly, Mother of Charlie Kelly, and Anna Kelly (9th grader). She played soccer and lacrosse in high school. Anna loves to watch her kids play but says that since she also coaches Charlie in soccer, that she has a side of coaching and making critiques, but also a side of just generally loving seeing her play.
Overall this event was super fun to watch. And I hope the B team does well in the rest of their season.
